Helianthus nuttallii, Nuttall's Sunflower

Clumping foliage gives rise in late summer to upright stems with loose groups of bright yellow, 2-inch+ wide ray flowers with a chocolate aroma! This pervasive North American native is happy in clay! It will be more robust in wetland areas and moist soils in general but will be fine with occasional water as well. Tough and exhilarating in the garden.
